About Sonia

Sonia has always had a passion for the written word, both as a reader and writer. Her first creative writing piece to be published was a story entitled "What Christmas Means to Me", published in the school newsletter at the age of seven, followed by many more stories, poems and articles in various school publications during her primary and secondary education.

As a Primary School teacher for almost four decades, Sonia shared that passion with her students. Most rewarding were those lightbulb moments when letters and words finally began to take on meaning. Her aim for her young students was to help them see themselves as successful readers and writers. Encouraging them as they actively and enthusiastically engaged in daily reading and writing activities was highly satisfying. During her career, Sonia wrote many stories, poems, songs, plays and musicals to educate and entertain her students.

Now retired, Sonia recently completed her first novel, intended for an adult audience in the Biblical/Historical fiction genre. This has been an exciting new adventure and steep learning curve! She is already working through some ideas for more books in the series.

Sonia also enjoys spending time with her grandchildren. Other interests include reading (of course!) and baking. She loves to travel and capture the beauty of the world around her in photos. From time to time, you will see her shots of sunrises, sunsets, landscapes of her travels, and glimpses of wildlife.

Sonia and her husband, Greg, are active members of their local church and are thankful for opportunities to serve God and their church family.

Although I have lived in Australia my whole life, I have only recently ventured into the desert. Flying over the vibrant red, dusty plains gave me a new perspective on our beautiful country.

Sticks and Stones

She sat at her desk, pencil in hand, staring at the blank page in her brand new exercise book. Afsana looked around at her new classmates, most of whom were attempting to complete the writing task their teacher had set. The teacher strolled over, looking at the blank page and smiled at her. “Would you like some help with ideas?”

Sonia Rose.

This is a 'Sonia' rose in my garden. I was so excited to find this fragrant long stemmed rose variety with salmon pink blooms.
